You are invited to attend the Superannuation Lawyers’ Conference 2024 in Adelaide
The Superannuation Committee of the Legal Practice Section of the Law Council of Australia is delighted to present its 36th annual Superannuation Law Conference to be held at the Pullman Hotel, Adelaide from Wednesday, 13 March until Friday, 15 March 2024.
We are delighted that the Hon Justice Blue, of the Supreme Court of South Australia, will be presenting the opening address.
Against a background of the increasing voice of activism, ever present cyber threats and a seemingly endless regulatory reform agenda, the 2024 conference – entitled ‘Superannuation under the microscope’ – will reflect the intense scrutiny placed on superannuation funds.
Topics the conference will examine include:
- The growing force of activism and the risk and opportunities that it presents for trustees.
- The latest developments in the investment landscape and how funds are responding to modern challenges such as: ESG risks, conflicts, the best financial interests duty and other governance considerations.
- The cyber security issues that trustees now face, and what they should do, when there is a cyber incident.
- Issues arising from the Government’s response to the Quality of Advice Review.
- The latest developments and trends in regulatory and judicial application of the various misleading and deceptive provisions of the Corporations Act and ASIC Act.
- The extent and limits of ASIC and APRA regulatory powers.
- The growing role of ESG and risks of green and blue washing.
- ASIC and APRA discussing their oversight of FAR and their focus under that regime.
- Key developments in taxation laws and their impact upon large superannuation fund trustees and members.
We are also pleased to present our signature case law update session.
We will once again offer delegates the ability to participate in the conference through our online platform.
For those wishing to come in person, we will be hosting the usual range of networking events, including the Welcome Cocktail Function on the evening of Wednesday 13 March 2024, and the Gala Dinner on Thursday 14 March 2024.

New Superannuation Lawyer’s Award
We also look forward to announcing the winner of our annual New Superannuation Lawyer’s Award who will be able to attend the conference for free.
The purpose of the New Superannuation Lawyer’s Award is to encourage young lawyers who practice or research in the field of superannuation law to explore issues of significance that have a bearing on the legal framework for superannuation in Australia within a theme. With the longer-term aspiration of attracting new lawyers to take an interest in the field of superannuation law, this award seeks to:
- develop a new lawyer’s understanding in relation to superannuation and trust law;
- enable a new lawyer to attend our national conference, who might not otherwise be able to attend the event;
- create a platform for new lawyers with an emerging interest in superannuation to showcase their interest through a piece of legal writing; and
- publicly recognise and highlight the award winner as an emerging new superannuation lawyer.
A theme is selected and announced each year that the award is offered. The theme for the 2024 New Superannuation Lawyers’ Award is “Superannuation under the microscope”.
Nominations for the 2024 award have now closed.
